There is no excuse for the lack of a proper save system with multiple save slots and manual saves. Make allies as you travel with your caravan across this. Why? Because some of the best games with lots of choices and consequences also have a great save system which allows to save and reload as much as you want (outside of combat): Dishonored, all the XCOM games, (almost) all Bioware games. Live through an epic role-playing Viking saga where your strategic choices directly affect your personal journey.
The notion that the game cannot have deep consequences and hard decisions with a decent save system is utter B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T. I usually like to go hardcore the second playthough, but for the first time I really like to enjoy the game without too many worries. Some people like unforgiving games (see FTL), a lot of people don't.

Many modern games play it safe you are the chosen one who always saves the day. Released on July 26th, 2018, it's a role-playing game merged with turn-based strategy, wrapped into an adventure mini-series about Vikings. Change it NOW! Why would you bother making a game with choices if you cannot go back and see what those choices really mean? I'm sorry, but not having manual saves in the games is more than demented. The Banner Saga 3 is the highly anticipated final game of an award winning trilogy. Is it possible to manually save in this game? If not, devs, please, change it.
